Product Description
Woca Antique Lye is a product specially developed to provide an ammonia smoked appearance to oak wood.
Provides oak wood with an ammonia smoked appearance
Subsequent treatment with oil is required
For oak wood only
Certified by IBR
Does not contain pigments
Antique Lye has been developed specially to produce an ammonia smoked appearance in oak wood. This product is relatively easy to use, but is corrosive and should be handled with caution during application. Because Woca Antique Lye reacts with the tannic acid in the oak, the colour after application can vary depending on the concentration of tannin in the wood. However, it does create a very unique colour and vintage appearance. The final colour will be apparent after one or two months.
Application
Wear suitable acid proof protective clothing, gloves and eye goggles for protection.
Suitable acid proof protective clothing must be worn, including gloves and eye goggles for protection. The unfinished woodwork must be sanded finely (grit 100-120), clean, and dry before the application of the lye.
Shake the Wood Lye container. Pour the product into a plastic bucket and stir at regular intervals in order to get a uniform result.
Apply an even coat of the lye with the WOCA Applicator, a nylon roller or brush lengthwise along the wood grain. Apply a minimum of 1 litre of lye to 10 m sq of wood. On vertically mounted woodwork, apply the lye from bottom to top.
Leave lye primed wood to dry for approx. 2-4 hours at 20C (the wood must be completely dry).
Clean the floor with 125 ml Wood Cleaner mixed into 5 litre water. Leave to dry for 24 hours at 20C
De-nib standing fibers with a fine sanding polishing pad before the final basic treatment. Subsequently vacuum clean the floor.
Finish the wood surface with one of the well-known WOCA oils.
